Windsong, September 2026
Volume 1, Issue 1
Camp New Fork may be quieting down for the season, but the spirit of camp doesn’t disappear when the last campers head home. Like the wind carrying a song across the lake, we hope The Windsong keeps a little piece of CNF moving throughout the year – here, we’ll share stories, celebrate our community, and look ahead to the summers still to come.
Can you believe it’s only been a couple of weeks since camp ended? It’s been a whirlwind here at New Fork as we’ve focused on shutting down facilities, hosting Wilderness Adventures’ fall trip training, and welcoming our final guest group of the season. The tents are down, the bunk beds are stored away, and the water systems are getting winterized.
Already, mornings have gotten noticeably chillier, and in just a few more weeks, we expect to see the first snow frosting the rim of New Fork Canyon across the lake.
While camp may be quiet, summer is still very much on our minds: we built new docks, added new tents, ran our first backcountry Xpedition, welcomed more campers, brought on more staff, and continued building on what makes Camp New Fork such a special place to spend a summer.
The New Fork Spirit
As part of earning their next rank in the Order of the Knifewing journey, all of our Classic Campers take on a service project during their session. This year, we focused on trail work around camp. On paper, trail work might not sound like the most exciting way to spend an afternoon at summer camp. But our campers turned it into something completely different.
Instead of being a chore to get through, it became something they were genuinely proud of. Almost every time I walked through camp, a camper would pull me aside to show me something they had worked on: a log they had moved, a section of trail they had raked, or a rock line they had helped build.
We want our campers to leave knowing that they can contribute and make a difference. The legacy that your children leave can literally be seen in every walk or hike around cam - pretty cool!
Parent Corner
It was a big summer for Camp New Fork, and it was also a big summer for us personally as we spent the summer preparing to become parents. Quinn Rosa Finley arrived August 28th and although she’ll be a little too young to jump in on programming next summer, we are excited for her to grow up at Camp New Fork!
Over the summer we had so many wonderful conversations with Camp New Fork parents about their experience raising adventurous kids, and the lessons they learned along the way. As we enter this next chapter ourselves, we would love to keep learning from the incredible community around us.
What parenting advice has been meaningful to you?
Maybe it’s something you learned from your own parents, something you discovered the hard way, or simply a piece of wisdom that has stuck with you over the years. Send it our way, and we’ll share some of our favorites in the next edition of The Windsong.
As we head into the quieter months, we just want to say thank you. Thank you for trusting us with your kids and for being part of the Camp New Fork community this summer.
Camp may be closed up for the season, but we’re already thinking about next summer. We hope your family has a great fall, and that your campers carry a little bit of Camp New Fork with them wherever they go.
We’ll see you around the campfire,
— Josiah & Alyssa
