Windsong, October 2026

Volume 1, Issue 2

Greetings from the Winds! At the beginning of the month, we spent some time at camp winterizing the facilities. The lake was lined with golden aspens, the mornings had a bite to them, and the whole place seemed to be settling in for winter.

It’s always a little strange to see camp this time of year. There is a stillness to a walk around a camp, a peace and tranquility that while refreshing, doesn’t feel quite right. As much as we appreciate the chance to catch our breath after a busy season, the absence of the organized chaos of summer just makes us miss the energy that campers bring to this place even more.

The New Fork Spirit: This Day Rules

This summer, we sent our first group of campers out on a backcountry Xpedition. We spent last winter working through the details: permits, itineraries, menus, and gear, but the one thing we couldn’t plan around was the weather. When we pulled up to the trailhead this summer, a steady drizzle was coming down, and the mountains were wrapped in dreary gray. It would have been easy for the mood to sink before the hike even began, but our staff and campers had other ideas.

Everyone pulled on their rain gear, grabbed a few snacks, and hit the trail. Counselors led songs and games as we hiked, turning what could’ve been a low point into one of the most memorable parts of the session. The rain also changed what we paid attention to. With our eyes on the trail and the forest around us, we started spotting wildflowers, fungi, and all kinds of little details we might have otherwise walked right past. The energy never really let up. By the time we reached the lake, the clouds had started to clear, and the campers were ready to set up camp and settle into their first night in the backcountry.

One of the things we talk about at New Fork is the “This Day Rules” mentality. We don’t get to decide if it rains, if a hike is harder than expected, or if things go according to plan.

What happens when it rains? We get wet!

We get to decide how we meet each day. We can let the rain ruin it, or we can pull on our rain gear, sing a few songs, and make the most of the day we’ve been given, and say “This Day Rules!”

2027 Staff Applications Open November 1

We'll share more about our approach to staffing in the next issue of The Windsong, including what we look for in the people who we trust to spend the summer with your kids. For now, we're just starting to spread the word.

If you know someone who embodies the Knifewing Spirit and might be a great addition to the team, we'd love an introduction. We invite them to apply via the staff application on November 1st, or they can reach out directly to Josiah at josiah@wildernessadventures.com.

Feedback & Testimonials

Returning Families: If you’ve spent a summer with us already, we'd love to hear from you!

We sent out a parent survey after each session ended, but if you haven't had a chance to fill it out, we're sharing it again. As we continue to grow Camp New Fork, hearing about your family's experience helps us understand what matters most to you and where we can do better.

Thanks for taking the time. We really do appreciate it.

Share Your Feedback

New Families: If you’re just joining us, welcome! We will be sharing testimonials from families who attended camp last summer on our social media platforms this winter. Check us out on Instagram @camp_newfork to follow along and hear real stories.

A Note from the Directors

Finally, thank you to everyone who has reached out about baby Quinn! She's healthy and beautiful, and we're having a lot of fun figuring out this whole growing-a-family thing.

We can't wait for her to grow up at New Fork, surrounded by all of your amazing kids. It's pretty special to think about her being part of the place that has become such a big part of our lives.

We hope your family is having a great fall. Camp may be quiet for now, but summer is never too far from our minds.
